Five Things to Look For at the St. Louis Supercross
With just four rounds left in the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series, an FIM World Championship, the chase for the coveted #1 plate is heating up big time! With five riders that have viable shots at the premiere Supercross championship, the Supercross class is producing some of the most exciting racing in years. Not to be outdone, the 250 Lites class is becoming equally exciting with MonsterEnergy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Dean Wilson coming on strong the last couple of weeks and putting the pressure on Geico Honda's Justin Barcia.
Here are a few things to look for at Saturday nights St. Louis Supercross:
1. Blake Wharton Breakthrough?
Yes, I keep saying this. Geico Honda's Blake Wharton has shown that he has the speed to run up front and can get great starts. What he has yet to do is put together 15 consistent laps. He has found himself on the podium lately in spite of having a shoulder that needs surgery. This is the last week the East coast guys will line up until Vegas. Is this the week that Wharton can put it all together? Barcia and Wilson may have other ideas.

AMA Women's MX, Day in the Dirt, Answer Sponsorships, Tatum Sik
MXGirls: There is one thing we don't need to wonder about anymore regarding part of the future of AMA womens Motocross - and that is regards to their 2010 AMA Womens Motocross National Numbers The series is growing, getting more organized, and I really like the sound of that!
I wanted to remind everyone of one the coolest and most rewarding "fun" races of the year, A Day in the Dirt. It's right around the corner, taking place at LACR in Palmdale, California on Thanksgiving weekend. This year I will be at the event, but you will only find me trackside to make sure the Womens race, which goes down on Saturday, gets showcased here at MXGirls at Supercross.com.
The track layout is pretty sweet as you can see from the image below, and if you raced it last year (like I did) then get back on the entry list for 2009 because the track is going to be soooo fun!
If you are wondering why I am not racing it this year, its simple: I want to cover it better for MXGirls at Supercross.com, and ... I only have two knees and both have meniscus tears in them. And I will be cheering on my friends! Go Bridget Hill (first place last year in the womens intermediate class!) and Laurie Carey!!

Here I am having a BLAST at 'A Day in the Dirt' 2008, took 2nd place behind Bonnie Warch in the Womens 30+ Expert Class

This is the track layout for A Day in the Dirt 2009!
Whenever I start a conversation with one of our local Pro or Amatuer MXGirls ,we always get on the subject of how they need help getting more sponsors.
I just got off the phone with Ian Runyon at Answer Racing and he told me if you are looking to have your resume reviewed you BETTER hurry up and get it in, deadline is the end of November. Hint: Send a nice clean, to-the-point resume, highlight your race career and your 2010 race goals. Include an appropriate portait style photo and a action shot, and your done!!

A couple of days ago I touched based with top female motocross racer and X Games 2008 Bronze Medalist Tatum Sik, so make sure you check out this quick little interview I did with her about what, when, why and how she is doing!
I always have one of our SoCal local riders on my mind because of her awesome engery and her infectous smile, not to mention, she does have one of the coolest names on the gate. Its been way to long since I've seen her in the headlines, so I reached out to Tatum Sik from for an update.
In 2008 Tatum had a great year - an invite to be part of the first-ever Womens Moto X at the X Games. And you could find Tatum racing at the AMA Women's National Motocross Series. Tatum was definitely on a high.
With this tremendous success, Tatum was gearing up for the 2009 race season .... but for some reason 2009 wasn't meant to happen as she wanted, and here is what Tatum has to say:
How would you best recap your 2009 WMX Outdoor National Season?
09 Outdoors was terrible! I went into the WMX Outdoors race series with a knee injury that progressively got worse with each moto. I had to re-look my race year and figure out how I was going to make something happen and heal up at the same time, so my plan went from going to all the WMX rounds to just getting through X Games.
You were looking awesome at XGames, ready to reclaim your position on the podium, what happened?
I was so bummed on X games! Supercross is my thing! I had almost everything dialed in on the track during our two practice rounds and my speed felt great as well as being really comfortable on the track. It all started with a bad start, the start killed it! And downhill from there! I had zero patience, I wanted my title back ... and it all ended when I did a really nice endo on a step up. The crash left me pretty beaten up, with some gnarly road-rash, as well as a broken wrist, collarbone, and dislocated shoulder.

No Tatum was not in the Best Trick Contest. WMA Racers = Harcore
Are you healthy now? Are you back on the bike? Training?
Not healthy yet. I still have a few more weeks left, but I'm back in the gym and doing some rehab so I'll be healthy when I can start to ride again. I had full knee reconstruction surgery, so thats why I've been sitting on the couch forever! Haha!

I think I saw you on a episode of Nitro Circus??
Yep. I was on Nitro Circus a while back but not sure what is goin' down in the future.
Plans for 2010?
2010 - Working on locking down sponsors, getting everything organized, so I can be fully prepared. I just wanna race as many local and WMX Outdoor Nationals as I can. Definitely X Games if they decide to invite me back, ... yes I have to be invited back to race. It's the real deal!

Oh ... and here is a follow up picture from my Halloween Festivities! I had a fun Halloween with my family! Kept it real and real fun! Here is my nephew Griffin aka Freddy Krueger trying to end Little Red Ridinghood's life! LOL - Goodtimes!

Behind the scenes: Team USA for 2010 Motocross of Nations - together for the first time
I was back out at Pala Raceway for something very special. I had already been there for four days for the Finale of the 2010 AMA MX season and the Awards Banquet.
But, as I mentioned, this was something special - the first official get together of Team USA for the 2010 Motocross of Nations. Team Manager Roger De Coster, racers Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short, Trey Canard, and all the support staff needed for an effort like this.

Ryan Dungey, Roger De Coster, Trey Canard, Andrew Short and Mitch Payton
I felt very privileged to be invited to such an event. I soon came to realize that the most unique and moving part of the day was seeing the look of real happiness, the feeling of true honor, and the comraderie for each person involved, as 'The Team' came together for the first time. It was contagious. They seem to be a real 'team' already, working together well, and have great things to say about each other. Again, it was contagious!

MXGirls Blog: Vicki Golden, A Day in the Dirt, Ross Maeda Benefit Ride Day, April Zastrow
First, we went to Pala Raceway to meet with Vicki Golden for an MXGirls feature video! Supercross.com's Ace Photographer & Video Man Gerald Geronimo captured a great interview with Vicki Golden, the 2009 AMA Women's Motocross Rookie of the Year! Check out Vicki Golden's video interview.

I didn't make it out to the 2009 A Day in the Dirt, but my fellow MXGirl and race correspondent did! Bridget Hall is one of my favorite weekend warrior - dedicated to the sport of motocross! She has been on fire participating in all the local events!
I reached out to Bridget for her MXGirls feedback on how her race went out at LACR (Los Angeles County Raceway) for the 2009 A Day in the Dirt event held over Thanksgiving weekend in Palmdale, California. Once again there was a healthy showing of girls out there racing the Women?s GP on Saturday morning. Some of the well known names in attendance were Tarah Geiger, Heather Kelley, and Sayaka Kaneshiro. Tarah Geiger clenched the win in the Women?s Pro Class, with Kaneshiro finishing second. Bridget ended up finishing third in the Women?s Intermediate class and had a great time as usual! I look forward to attending 2010!

As many of you know, Enzo Suspension?s Ross Maeda suffered a debilitating crash in September at Starwest MX Park which left him with a broken back. With the help of Enzo Racing, TransWorld Motocross Magazine and Perris Raceway, the motocross community came out on December 6th to have a ride day and show support for 'Rossi'. Many vendors donated great prizes to the raffle & auction and the ride day was packed! The moto community is such a fantastic one; it?s amazing how many people came together to show their support! Many of the pros were in attendance as well, such as Jeremy McGrath, Mike Sleeter, Brett Metcalfe and Brian Deegan (to name just a few). It was a HUGE success and everyone wishes Ross the best of luck in his recovery. Please follow his journey at www.rossiproject.com

A Supercross is usually filled with its share of dramatic moments. From the jump off the gate to those first turn pile ups, all the way to that finish and everything in between, the action at Supercross is always nonstop.
The 2010 Phoenix Supercross had more dramatic moments than your normal race. However it was in those days that followed that the drama grew with various opinions that were blasted across message boards and blogs. I certainly appreciated the hot topics brought to the surface by the many people who love the sport of Supercross. And like you I have my own thoughts on the James Stewart and Chad Reed 'incident' ...
It was just one year ago when a controversy made headlines with Jason Lawrence, Josh Hansen and Steve Boniface were 'fighting'.
The backlash for those guys were met by AMA officials. Last year the Rules stated that the following offense is subject to disciplinary action:
An attack on a Racing official and/or engaging in a fight. This includes any person who attacks or is involved in a fight anywhere on the premises prior to, during, or after an AMA Supercross meet. There will be no maximum fine or suspension period for this offense.
My point here is that Supercross is no stranger to its share of drama but in the aftermath of last year, and now Phoenix, what does it take to show some true sportsmanship and character in tough occupation?
James commented thru his blog initially. Info on Chad Reed came thru Kawasaki and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher stated that Chad would not return to racing until he is 100 percent. Chad is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks to heal his broken left hand. Six to seven weeks puts us near the Daytona Supercross and by then there will still be eight races left on the schedule.

R4TC: 2010 Ride for the Cure at Cahuilla Motocross Park
I haven't hit the track much in 2010, but knowing that the 4th Annual Motocross Ride for the Cure Event was coming, I dusted off the KTM, dropped it off at Malcolm Motorsports for some fine tuning, hit Milestone Motocross Track for a handful of warm ups and I was ready to enjoy the funnest event of the year hosted by motocross enthusiast herself, Laurie Carey, who is constantly raising the bar for fundraising, support, education and interaction for Breast Cancer Awareness!

The morning started off amazing, perfect day to moto! The sky's were bright blue and littered with dark fluffy rain clouds! Dropping rain in perfect track watering patterns, the day was in full swing and the pits were packed! Tons of Factory support lined up for the event, they even had a never ending Freestyle show in the works! Mike Metzger, the God Father of FMX was doing his thing and dozens of other talented riders busting out tricks for the fans.

I pretty much settled into a pack rat of MXGirls, WMA Pro Rider Elizabeth Bash, Race Techs Michelle Marshall, and Mission Motorsports Brooklyn McClendon. We had a blast mixing it up on the main and vet tracks, sporting our decorated "Ride for the Cure" Bra's and having a blast spinning laps, saving boobies!
In the end I was amazed at the growth this event has accumulated over the years, by far the most impressive outcome I've seen. I'm looking forward to next year's event, but more importantly, it's touching to see all the work Laurie Carey puts into the Support and Awareness of Breast Cancer.
